What is MABS Plastic?

The world of plastics can be a bit of a complex one! Let's take a look at what our nails are made from and why they differ from ABS plastic.

What is MABS Plastic?

MABS (Methyl Methacrylate Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is a transparent thermoplastic known for its toughness, clarity, and glossy finish - making it a perfect candidate for press-on nails! It combines properties of ABS plastic (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) with the benefits of methyl methacrylate, resulting in a versatile, easily mouldable, glossy and strong material.

Differences Between ABS and MABS Plastic

  1. Composition:

    • ABS: Made of acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene. Known for its strength and impact resistance.
    • MABS: Adds methyl methacrylate to the ABS composition, enhancing transparency and glossiness.

  2. Properties:

    • ABS: Opaque, strong, and impact-resistant but less aesthetically appealing.
    • MABS: Transparent, retains strength and impact resistance, and has a higher aesthetic appeal due to its glossy finish.

Why MABS is used for Finger Food Press-On Nails

MABS plastic is ideal for press-on nails due to its combination of clarity, durability, and aesthetic qualities. The transparent nature of MABS allows for vibrant, true-to-color designs that are also comfortable (and more natural looking!)
Additionally, its toughness ensures that the nails are resistant to breakage and everyday wear and tear, making them long-lasting.

Why MABS is Better Than ABS for Press-On Nails

  1. Aesthetic Appeal:

    • MABS: A glossy, high-quality finish that enhances the overall look of the nails. The transparency allows for more vibrant colours.
    • ABS: Generally more matte and less visually appealing

  2. Durability:

    • MABS: Maintains high impact resistance and toughness, making the nails less prone to breaking and chipping.
    • ABS: While they can be strong, they lack the added durability of MABS

  3. Comfort:

    • MABS: Provides a smoother, more comfortable feel
    • ABS: More rigid and less comfortable

Once you try MABS plastic vs ABS you'll easily see the difference and never want to wear regular ABS plastic ones again.

Dare you to give them a try - you'll forever be serving looks, not leftovers.
